Harry Braithwaite

Harry was Brian Finch-Malloy‘s sergeant in Flanders. Despite an instinctive feel for machinery, amounting almost to genius, Harry did not join the Engineers, preferring a more combative role in the Coldstream Guards, where he performed with great distinction, but failing to earn a commission, due to his relatively humble social background.

Before the Great European War, Harry spent some time in Germany, studying automotive engineering and the German language. Much to his surprise and embarrassment, he found himself to be the object of romantic attention from Maria, Colonel Petrov’s daughter.
